Glovo opens its platform to make essential services available in Ukraine

March 9, 2022

London, March 9, 2022 Glovo, one of the world’s leading multi-category delivery players, has today announced that it has partially resumed operations in Ukraine, in order to provide essential services in twenty cities across the country, including Kyiv. The company’s objective is to provide humanitarian support and offer essential logistics to those in need, connecting customers and couriers with partner  restaurants, pharmacies, grocery stores and NGOs.

After careful evaluation, the company made its platform available in western Ukrainian cities from last week, on a limited basis, including a handful of selected districts in Kyiv. This was due to an increased demand for vital services to residents and NGOs who are unable to access food, medicine and urgent basic goods.

Glovo does not seek and will not have any financial gains from these services in Ukraine and waives commission and delivery fees to partners, NGOs and pharmacies. Additionally, while all user delivery fees remain, they will be donated through a Ukraine-based NGO, Come Back Alive, which looks to support the Ukrainian society. Given the current circumstances, the active couriers’ compensation has been adapted to ensure they can support themselves and their families. All couriers are covered by local and global insurance.

With groups of individuals self-organising deliveries to help people, there is a clear need and high demand for Glovo’s platform to help connect suppliers, couriers and those in need, in a secure and safe way. Since operations resumed in Ukraine, nearly 10,000 orders were delivered last week, with nearly 1,000 active stores and more than 700 couriers operating so far. To ensure the safety of users, couriers and partners, Glovo has implemented additional safety measures and protocols.

Sacha Michaud, Co-founder of Glovo, said: “Having observed how the courier community has come together and united to extend support to people in need, making our technology platform available again has enabled us to further support Ukraine and help connect people in need. We understand the pressing need for those Ukrainian citizens in Kyiv, and other cities, to access food and other indispensable supplies and we are committed to making these essential services available wherever it is possible”.

“At the same time, through our Glovo Access programme, we are pledging an initial fund of €500k to support humanitarian efforts for NGOs, couriers and partners in Ukraine and assistance to refugees in neighbouring countries. This is the beginning of our recovery fund initiative.”

Dmitry Rasnovsky, General Manager of Ukraine at Glovo, said: “There is a lack of essential logistics services on the ground in Ukraine. We are facing a humanitarian crisis, with the elderly struggling to get access to food – basic needs remain unfulfilled. By making our platform available we have an opportunity to make a positive impact and support those in need right now. Couriers have been using a variety of channels to communicate, and making our logistical infrastructure available to provide essential services makes this much easier and safer”.

Glovo’s number one priority is the safety of employees, users, couriers, and partners and the developments in Ukraine are very closely monitored to evaluate and adapt any new measures as required. In case of attacks, Glovo will stop operations immediately and all couriers will be required to follow necessary safety protocols. For the time being, the hours of operations differ per city to comply with local curfews; with Kyiv operating between 10am and 6pm.

As the situation in Ukraine evolves, so does Glovo’s response and approach to offering support.
