It’s been nearly 8 years since we first started giving everyone easy access to anything in their city and as of January 2023, we’ve already made it happen a half a BILLION times for our customers. Just saying, but with so much experience under our belt, we’ve learned a lot about what makes our customers tick and how data can revolutionize businesses both small and large, so when we say this is trending, we know it.

We crunched the numbers and read the requests for every order made last year. Enter: Delivered 2022 – the report for insights on the past year and a forecast on trends to look out for in 2023.

Here are the top 3 trends we believe will shape the multi-category delivery sector in 2023.

Healthy Eating

Healthy options like vegetarian & vegan choices, poke, salads, and more have been making big waves. In fact, in 2022 alone, we saw that 62% of people are eating healthier and saw a 57% increase in orders for vegetarian cuisine. Surprisingly, Italy, Poland and Spain are the leading countries in the consumption of vegetarian food.

Users not only recognize the effect that eating too much meat can have on their health, but are hyper-conscious of the impact it has on our planet. According to the FAO, global livestock production makes up 14.5% of all anthropogenic (human-caused) emissions – which equates to 7.1 gigatonnes of CO2 equivalent per year. (And yes, our Impact & Sustainability teams love this trend.)

Having alternative menu options in 2023 is a win-win-win for consumers, restaurants, and the planet. Different and more healthy options will keep your business attracting customers regardless of their dietary choices.

Expand your meal times

Early riser? Feeling that mid-afternoon hunger pang? Orders aren’t just concentrated around lunches and dinners anymore as the demand for snack and breakfast options grow. In 2022, orders in the snack category grew by 108% and breakfast orders by 58% meaning users are turning to Glovo to nosh around the clock. To satisfy those in-between meal cravings, users especially love to order sandwiches, croissants and empanadas on Sunday’s from 18-19h.

In 2023, we expect users to continue this trend as traditional time tables begin to bend with more hybrid working models and busy schedules that get in the way of standard eating times.

Ordering isn’t just for food anymore

Long gone are the days when delivery was exclusively for Friday pizza nights. With consumers becoming increasingly more comfortable with on-demand delivery services for everything and anything- including flowers, cosmetics, books & stationery, to gifts and pet care products – this major shift in consumer habits means new opportunities for several types of businesses.

In 2022, we saw a 76% increase in orders from supermarkets and a 120% increase in retail (non-food) orders which included some rather particular requests. From 1 user in Slovenia that ordered 16 bags of kitty litter to a user in Portugal who requested Code of Criminal Procedure (hopefully just a law school student), our vision of giving everyone easy access to anything in their city is well underway for Glovo users across the globe.
