Delivering Age-Restricted Products

July 25, 2021 • 3 minutes

At Glovo:

  • Users can order whatever they want through the app — including alcohol, tobacco, nicotine and other age-restricted products — in compliance with local regulations and the terms and conditions of the platform
  • We do not tolerate the distribution of any age-restricted products to minors
  • Our users are asked to confirm that they are of legal age to purchase all age-restricted products, including alcoholic beverages, as required by law and in accordance with our terms and conditions

All couriers should familiarise themselves with the following:

  • Do not deliver age-restricted products to customers under 18
  • Understand the consequences of selling or delivering age-restricted products to anyone under 18
  • If you suspect that a customer is under 18 at the point of delivery, you are required to request proof of identification (ID)
  • Understand the valid forms of ID

Couriers should not:

  • Deliver age-restricted products to the customer if you have reason to suspect that the ID produced is not genuine, is invalid or has expired, or if an ID cannot be produced and you believe the customer looks under the age of 18. When this happens, contact Glovo’s LiveOps team for support and inform them — do not complete the order.
  • Deliver age-restricted products to customers who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Leave age-restricted products anywhere except the delivery address (if the order is mixed — containing both age-restricted and non-age-restricted products, couriers should deliver the items without age-restrictions and dispose of any other products responsibly).

We ask that couriers refuse delivery where they have any reason to suspect that a person is under the minimum purchasing or drinking age, and a valid form of identification cannot, or has not, been produced

What forms of identification are considered acceptable?

  • If a user is required to verify their age upon delivery, we accept all valid forms of photographic identification, including National ID, passport or driving licence.

Valid forms of photographic ID include:

  • Passport
  • European Union photocard driving licence
  • National identity card issued by a European Union member state

How should couriers check ID:

  1. Check that the document is a valid and acceptable form of ID.
  2. Check that the photograph on the identification card looks like the person providing it as proof of identity.
  3. Check the expiry date and confirm that the document is still valid.

If couriers can’t complete the entire delivery because the customer cannot present a valid ID, is under the age of 18, or appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they’ll contact the LiveOps team.
